Skyhawks women’s basketball dominate in 62-30 game

By Samantha Zellers

On November 2, 2023, the Sauk Valley Community College women’s basketball team competed in a home game against the Wilbur Wright team.

At the point at which there were eight seconds left in the second quarter, the score was at a shocking 31-2 in favor of the home team. The Skyhawks had set up an advantage from which the Wilbur Wright team just couldn’t bounce back.

Most of the early points were gained through regular play, in batches of two points each. However, when the Wilbur Wright team gained steam in the final half of the game, the points on both sides began to flow from penalty shots.

The opposing team missed most of those penalty shots, and simply didn’t make enough free play shots to overcome the early-game lead that the Skyhawks continued to bolster.

Abagail Knipple, a member of the Skyhawks women’s basketball team, had this to say about their success in the game: “Holding Wilbur Wright to only basket in the first half was definitely a huge accomplishment for us just being able to put together everything we have been working on…We are working on controlling what we can, and I think every game we get better at working together and playing off of each other. ”
